Directive 2012/27/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on energy efficiency. In Hungary, the energy efficiency monitoring and reporting of large consumers is regulated by Government Decree 197/2009 (IX. 29.), which harmonises with the EU directives through Government Decree 47/2021 (III. 29.). The Directive contains a number of measures aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption. It pays particular attention to large consumers and requires them to install energy meters and energy efficiency systems.
Large consumers with an annual energy consumption of more than 500 MWh must install energy efficiency meters and systems that monitor energy use and production. Installing energy meters will allow energy users to know their energy costs and manage energy use more efficiently, thereby reducing their energy bills.
In order to comply, large consumers will have to introduce energy efficiency measures in addition to installing meters and systems. The most common measures include installing energy efficiency equipment, upgrading lighting systems, optimising heating and cooling systems, and monitoring and optimising energy use.
To comply, large consumers must work with energy suppliers and energy efficiency experts. With the help of energy suppliers, large consumers can learn about their energy use patterns, and energy efficiency specialists can advise on more efficient energy use options.
